Major Philosophers: Soctares-Sartre An introductory course in philosophy. The course examines six major philosophers of Western Civilization: Plato, Descartes, Hume, Hegel, Marx and Sartre. Each will be shown developing his own position as a response to the real problems which define his particular time. Each philosopher's distinctive treatment of these problems conditioned the way in which later thinkers dealt with similar problems, and raised new problems which became the subject matter for future thought and investigation.

An interdisciplinary course examining how people regard their own deaths and the deaths of others. Approaches to death such as denial, acceptance, and rebellion are considered; issues such as immortality, funerals, grief, suicide, and euthanasia are taken up in a variety of literature and films.
