Speaking before the camera. Practice in planning and presenting religious programs. Study of current religious-program types and creation of new approaches in religious programming.

Emphasis on a greater depth and understanding of concepts and a higher level of skill in receiving and sending messages. Rhetorical history and theory are included.

PACOM109. Creative Speaking

Focuses on troublesome areas such as stage fright, poor diction, delivery, projection, posture, gestures, grammar, and most importantly, the ability to speak on one's feet. Stresses development of the introduction, body, and conclusion of the speach. Basically, the style or mode will be ex-tempore.

Introduction to the principles, techniques, and style of writing materials for radio, TV, and other media. Commercial copy, promotional copy, news writing, PSA's, training and documentary programs are among the topics covered through assignments.

PACOM132. Voice and Articulation

This course is designed to improve the vocal and articulatory components of speech. Areas of study and practice include pronunciation, vocal production, and the sounds of standard American English. Speaking assignments provide the student with practice in the skills that are necessary for effective verbal communication.

Advanced design problems for publications ranging from posters to brochures, pamphlets and booklets to magazines and other editorial formats emphasizing two-dimensional multiple page or multiple panel layout. Character count and projection of space requirements, economics of paper stock and size selection, exploiting the potential on one, two and three color jobs through screens and over-printing.

MEDIA COMMUNICATION II: PACKAGE DESIGN. A survey of the state of the art in packaging. Course projects will be based on the consumer product industry. Graphic problems for three-dimensional objects and display. Package design comprehensive techniques for Art Director and client presentation. Grasping product essence and interpreting client needs and the demands of the marketplace.

PACOM224. Broadcast Copywriting

Extensive work with the forms and formats in writing for the electronic media. Topics will include script production, timing, audience appeal, creative use of effects, radio and TV commercials, continuity, storyboards, and broadcast campaigns.

PACOM225. Announcing Techniques

Students develop announcing techniques for many of the jobs in the broadcast industry and allied fields. Includes announcing of news, sports, interviews, musical selections and shows, and instruction/industrial programming. Emphasizes the principles of communication underlying those skills.

PACOM226. Video Production I

An introduction to the fundamentals of video production in the half-inch format. Students will learn how to script, direct, shoot, light, edit, and produce short video pieces. They will examine the application of video to the contemporary arts, to documentation, and to television production. They will learn a visual vocabulary through an evaluation of other works and through a hands on experience in production that will enable them to take more advanced work or better use imaging for their particular needs.

This course offers an in-depth examination of the director's role. Sessions explore the art, skill, authority, and responsibility of the director for preproduction planning, budgeting, casting, location scouting, and rehearsing in feature films. TV series, commercials, business and educational films, documentaries, news films, and videotape. Students work on assignments and exercises in script breakdown, shot determination, character description for casting call, sound stage utilization, camera placement, action blocking, and the preparation of a director's work script.

This seminar concerns the advertising, journalism, cinema, public relations, and television-radio professions' gender issues and problems. It covers the gender transition to a female majority professional workforce; causes of work-related gender problems, the cost of gender bias.

An examination of the causes and effects of conflicts between and within cultures. The course questions the notion of cultural unity, raises issues of cultural identity, and defines categories used to construct cultural positions.
