In general drawing the course moves from a simple description of the object(its texture, weight, volume) to the relationship of two or more objects in space and the understanding of space in multiple space relationships and finally to the organization of the entire rectangle. The emphasis is on the reality of drawing as against the reality of nature, stressing that the drawing process in inventive. The student learns to use line and tone to arrive at an image and to work with a variety of media, including charcoal, links, conte and oil crayon.

Students will learn the basic principles involved in color photography, study its individual media quality and participate in related laboratory experiences. Portfolios of color slides, proof sheets and enlarged color prints are produced by the students.

PAART122. Intro. to Illustration

This class explores contemporary concepts and techniques of the magazine, editorial, advertising, and book illustrator. Through weekly assignments and critiques, emphasis is on style development through simple, practical, black and white drawings and more experimental creative illustrations in color.

The student learns the necessary skills by working on actual windows. ART330 Advertising Graphic Production The student will be made aware of the involvement of offset printing in advertising graphic production and how to obtain quality results as a designer, art director or production manager. A course for the exploration of contemporary attitudes and innovations in fine printing. The basic craft skills used in fine letter press printing are introduced in a studio environment. Through a number of exercises, students gain an understanding of the nature and interaction of printing types with inks and papers as well as fundamental terminology and familiarity with the various pieces of equipment. Emphasis is on printing, typesetting, and design.

PAART480. Batik Workshop

This course is a studio workshop outlined to investigate the ancient art of batik, techniques used in fabric decoration. Possible fabrics, dyes, waxes, tools, equipment and procedures will be studied in their preparation and use for dyeing. The purpose of the course will be to involve the students in a practical application of art principles using the ancient and contemporary skills applied to the craft of batik dyeing.
